The strange third day:
CURSE OF MR. WHISKERS
by Gilly Woolsey
Holy
moly! I had the strangest second day of school ever, starting with meeting a
giant talking praying mantis and ending with saving the school from a giant
man-eating slug. Soon, the school was back to normal... almost. Gib now lives
at school and you can see him strolling around every day. The principal cleared
out an old storage room so Gib could have a home. One day, Gib came running
down the hallway and he started calling to me, "Gilly! Gilly!" And I
said, "What? What?"
"I had the strangest night ever! Okay, a cold breeze
woke me up in the middle of the night and I saw a strange glowing, it was
green, and I heard a strange noise, almost like 'blub, blub' so I headed
towards the room. The last thing I heard was a zapping and it was morning. But
that's not the strangest part.
Look!" Gib turned around and showed me his
back. There were fish scales growing on it! "O. M. G.! You're turning into
a fish!" Gib really wanted his revenge against whoever cursed him. So, I
asked the principal and my mom if I could stay the night at my school. They
both said yes and before I knew it I was pulling an all-nighter with Gib.
"Are you sure you saw what you really saw?" I asked Gib. "Yes
I'm absolutely positive I-" Then we saw it. The glowing green light. We crept
closer to the light and the light was coming from an Egyptian tomb belonging
to... "MR. WHISKERS?!?!?" I
exclaimed.
A glowing green catfish emerged from his sarcophagus and swam for a
moment around the room before saying, "Halt! Who goes there?" Gib
immediately blurted, "WHO GOES THERE??!?!?! I'LL TELL YOU WHO GOES
THERE!!!!!!!! THE INNOCENT GUY YOU CURSED LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!!" Gib
started swatting frantically at the catfish but I held Gib back with all my
strength. I explained what happened to Gib and asked Mr. Whiskers what was
going on with him. Mr. Whiskers said, " Ever since I passed and was
mummified, I've been trying to get out of this tomb. But no matter how much I
begged and pleaded, the skies wouldn't open up. I just... lost it." The
fish said solemnly. Then I came up with an idea. " I can help you out of
here but only under one condition. You un-curse
my friend and anyone else you've cursed ever and we will guide you out."
Mr. Whiskers agreed and said a chant Gib or I just couldn't understand but when
I looked on Gib's back, I saw no fish scales at all!
I found a flashlight and
led Mr. Whiskers and his servant, Shark Bait (a blue tang) lugging a big bag of
belongings with him. While we led them out, the school seemed more like an
endless labyrinth than a school. When we finally got out, The fish danced
around in rejoice. Mr. Whiskers said, "Thank you for what you have done.
Farewell, new friends, see you in the afterlife!" We waved as Mr. Whiskers
and Shark Bait flew into the pitch black sky, soon disappearing even though
they glowed. Gib and I had saved the school once again.
